President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday announced a cocktail of measures which are premised at reducing the spread and transmission of the novel coronavirus.
He also introduced strict border controls which shall result in a reduced number of vehicles passing through the country’s borders. In a statement, the president said:
We have decided to ban all non-essential traffic and travel, both inbound and outbound, except for the movement of cargo.
Zimbabwe is the link between South Africa and the rest of the SADC region therefore vehicles from the region to South Africa and vice versa pass through Zimbabwe.
These strict measures were introduced following the death of a 30-year-old journalist Zororo Makamba the son of James Makamba a business tycoon and former member of the ruling ZANU PF.
