Small to Medium Scale Millers Association of Zimbabwe has announced that their members are suspending operations due to shortage of maize to make the much needed maize meal, The Chronicle reports.
This was revealed in a telephone interview SMMAZ’s interim chair Mr Davis Muhambi had with the publication yesterday. Muhambi said:
Our members have suspended operations because there is no grain to produce roller meal and we are appealing to Government to increase allocations so that we produce enough to meet demand.
If subsidised roller meal continues to be in short supply, we will continue to have these queues which then expose people to the risk of contracting diseases such as Covid-19,
Meanwhile, the subsidised roller meal is in short supply forcing some seller to charge anything west of $240 for a 10kg bag of mealie meal compared to the $70 consumers pay for the subsidised mealie meal.
