The MDC Alliance Youth Assembly has vowed to stop a hostile takeover of the party’s Morgan Richard Tsvangirai headquarters in central Harare by the Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T.
The party’s Youth Assembly national secretary-general Stephen Siziba told NewsDay that they would resist any attempts by MDC-T secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora to seize the party’s offices. Siziba said:
There is an attempt by a hostile one to capture Harvest House (MRT), first to manufacture concerns in the court of public opinion by Douglas Mwonzora and to test the feelings of the people’s movement.
The attempt to take over Harvest House (MRT house) will be resisted. We want to make it very clear in no uncertain terms that Harvest House is our headquarters and we are to defend it with our blood.
On Monday Mwonzora claimed to have locked the offices and promised to reopen them after the 21-day lockdown.
However, it emerged on Tuesday that Mwonzora was not telling the truth as MDC Alliance Youth Assembly members were pictured right within the offices with the front doors of the building open.
