Hailstorms Leaves A Trail of Destruction In Nyanga & Mutasa Districts

Hailstorms have reportedly destroyed infrastructure and property at some homes and schools in Mutasa and Nyanga, The Herald reports. According to the publication, the storms which started on Tuesday in Odzi blew up the roof of a 2 block classroom at St Francis Matanga Primary School and a part of the roof of the girls’ toilet at the same school was also blown off.

The storms also damaged infrastructure at Regina Coeli school according to Roman Catholic Diocesan education secretary, Mr Lawrence Chibvuri who said:

I received a report that two classrooms were damaged. Part of the roof on one of the classrooms was blown away and there were some structural damages to the office area and the other classroom.

At St Francis, the roof of a two-classroom block was also blown off, but the trusses were not affected. We will need to move swiftly to repair these damages before schools open so that we do not disturb lessons

Roads were reportedly damaged and trees were uprooted by the storm. CPU director, Mr Nathan Nkomo said his office was still to be furnished with finer details of the hailstorm.
