Zimbabwe’s US Dollar shortage is set to worsen due to the late onset of the tobacco marketing season, the Daily News reports.
This was revealed by Ben Gilpin, executive director of the Commercial Farmers Union who spoke to the publication and said:
It’s the cash flow that’s the biggest concern for everyone,The people that provide finance to tobacco farmers did so until the end of March, with the expectation that from April debts are being serviced, but there is no money now.
The economy which was projected to grow by 1.8% initially might also take a knock because of the COVID-19 pandemic that has resulted in the government imposing a 21 days lockdown to curb spreading the virus.
