Nelson Chamisa, a leader in the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party has listed a number of measures which the government of Zimbabwe can implement to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
He posted on Twitter on Wednesday and said that the politicisation on aid was uncalled for. He said:
Zimbabwe needs a multi-phased broad range of measures to mitigate the worst effects of the pandemic on communities, individuals &businesses. These include tax relief, support to vulnerable households & business &job protection. Govt must stop politicizing or weaponizing this relief!
His remarks amid reports that some members of his party are being arrested and harassed for “mobilising and distributing mealie-meal,” to vulnerable people.
The ruling ZANU PF has often been criticised for abusing aid in the country to entice the electorate.
