Govt To Keep Returnees At Belvedere Teachers' College
Scores of Zimbabwean citizens who returned from the United Kingdom on Monday aboard Ethiopian Airlines will have to stay at Belvedere Technical Teachers’ College for the mandatory quarantine, a government official has said.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Secretary Simon Masanga on Tuesday said the government will provide borehole water for the citizens following complaints that the water provided by the Harare City Council was undrinkable. Said Masanga:
The institution had running water, but what they wanted was borehole water and we are in the process of getting that sorted.
FeedbackHowever, today we will organise bottled water for them. Since we could not secure accommodation for them at the UZ, that means we will have to work with what is there.
They will have to stay at Belvedere Teachers’ College, after all, this is only a temporary arrangement.
The returnees on Monday allegedly demanded to be isolated at a hotel, arguing that the conditions at the college were deplorable.
Quarantining of returning citizens is a standard procedure being done to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, moreso with Britain currently one of the hotspots of the disease.
