Midlands-based miner RioZim is mulling slowly taking its operations off the national power grid, in a bid to stop interruptions caused by constant power outages, Business Times reports.
This was revealed in the company’s full-year results for the period to December 2019. The chairman Saleem Beebeejuan said:
To mitigate this risk, the company has invested in generators that will be commissioned at Dalny and Renco Mines. In the long term, through its solar projects the group is expected to be fully independent of the power utility.
Constant power outages have forced the ZSE listed miner to buy generators and solar panels to mitigate power shortages that hinder production.
