Bulawayo Zanu PF Supporters Fall For A Social Media Food Aid Hoax

Zanu PF supporters in Bulawayo were made to congregate in the city’s CBD after a fake letter on the party’s letterhead instructed people to congregate at the city’s Large Town Hall to receive goodies, The Standard reports.

The fake letter that caused the fracas reportedly read:

Following the prolonged lockdown, the government has put in place measures to mitigate the effects of extended stay at home orders including the provision of food to vulnerable families,” the letter read in part.

We are, therefore, directing all party leadership to ensure that our members know about the food distribution programmes that will commence on Tuesday 19 May across the country. Members are requested to bring their party cards.

The fake letter was dismissed by  Zanu PF Bulawayo acting secretary for information Christopher Sibanda who said:

Buy Samsung, itel, Redmi smartphones in Zimbabwe

WhatsApp: +263715068543

It was a hoax message, as the province did not have such a food distribution programme

Another social media food aid hoax haunted SA based Zimbabwean footballers Khama Billiat and Willard Katsande after social media messages circulated claiming they will distribute food to starving Zimbabweans in Pretoria.
