Returnees Quarantined At Belvedere Teachers' College Demonstrate Against Paying US$65 For Compulsory Covid-19 Testing.
ZRP has confirmed there was a demonstration at Belvedere teachers college where some returnees are quarantined, The Herald reports. The demo reportedly started when the returnees were asked to pay US$65 for compulsory Covid-19 testing at a private health facility.
The returnees responded by putting soil in the sadza as they demanded answers why they were being asked to pay for COVID-19 testing when it was supposed to be done for free.
ZRP National Police spokesperson Assitant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and said:
There was a demonstration at the isolation centre in which a group of people quarantined there put soil in sadza plates as a way of airing their grievances to the authorities.
Police were informed and reacted swiftly. No one was injured during the demonstration. We have since launched an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile reports from other publications are saying the country has run out of COVID-19 testing kits.
