Woman's Newborn Baby Stolen On The Way From Maternity Ward

Police are investigating a case of a 19-year-old woman who lost her newborn baby to another woman who was pretending to be a churchmate.

NewsDay was told that Juliet Sibili from Bangala gave birth at Chiredzi General Hospital and the child was stolen on her way home. Narrating her ordeal, Sibili said:

I gave birth through cesarian procedure, so I was in pain and could hardly walk. My mother Kaisi Harugumi was carrying the bags and buckets while I was holding the baby, then a woman who seemed to be going in the same direction offered to help with the bags.

We thought she was a churchmate and never suspected anything because we were heading towards ZCC Wellness Centre which is less than a kilometre from the hospital.

Sibili added that her mother passed through the church centre to drop the bags, leaving her in the company of the stranger who later offered to help her with the baby when she mentioned that she was weak.

The woman who claimed to have a house nearby said she had forgotten something at home and would want to pick it. She insisted on going with the baby, she never returned.
