Advocate Thabani Mpofu who is accused of obstructing the course of justice and perjury and fraud on Wednesday appeared before Harare Magistrate who granted him a $20000 bail.
The development was announced by Zaward-winning Zimbabwean journalist and filmmaker, Hopewell Chin’ono who posted on Twitter suggesting that Mpofu was a political victim. He said:
The People’s Advocate is now home. He was given Z$20000 bail. Adv Thabani Mpofu @adv_fulcrum is yet again another victim of Mnangagwa’s vindictiveness because of who he represents, @nelsonchamisa, and what he stands for, the PEOPLE! This shall pass.
The charges levelled against Mpofu come after he allegedly represented a nonexistent person, Munyaradzi Zuze who was allegedly challenging President Mnangagwa’s appointment of Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi.
Mpofu is popularly known for his representing the opposition MDC Alliance when it challenged the 2018 presidential elections which the party said had been manipulated in favour of Mnangagwa who was the candidate for the ruling ZANU PF.
