A payslip of an officer in the Zimbabwe National Army has suggested that some soldiers are getting ZW$3 683.07 as their salary.

Using the intebank rate (25), it means they are getting US$147.732 and about US$52.62 dollars at the parallel market rate.

This comes when inflation in the country continues to rise unabated.

Commenting on the payslip, Alex Tawanda Magaisa, the former Chief of Staff for the late founding leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), Morgan Tsvangirai said:

The irony is the soldier earning these crumbs while political elites make millions through corrupt deals will beat up & shoot at his fellow citizens who are seeking a better life. And fellow leaders in the region turn a blind eye to this state brutality. Be careful of them.

A South African national, Blessing Ramoba said the payslip must serve as a lesson that once the South African economy has collapsed, it will be difficult to come back.

Ramoba warned against “politicians who have no knowledge of economics.”
