DCK To Boost Bread Output To 230 000 Loaves A Day

Local bread manufacturer DCK Investment is hoping to increase bread production to $230 000 loaves a day by investing more in bakery assets, The Herald reports. DCK owner Douglas Kwande said the company will soon open plants in  Chitungwiza, Bulawayo and Masvingo.

Speaking to the publication, Kwande said:

We have acquired assets previously owned by Aroma Bakeries (formerly owned by Blue Ribbon Foods) in Chitungwiza and Downings in Bulawayo and these will be commissioned soon.We are also looking at opening another plant in Masvingo and this should take us to about 230 000 loaves. Our ultimate goal is to become a big player in Zimbabwe’s baking industry.

We are an indigenous production oriented company and our vision is to become a dominant player in primary wheat production, milling and baking; participating in the entire value chain.

There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes, but it’s unfortunate that with global travel restrictions due to Covid-19, our team has been unable to go to China to assess the equipment and appreciate the products being produced by such equipment. We have the quotations and it seems we need as much as US$20 million in new equipment.

The industry is dominated by 3 players Bakers Inn, Proton and Lobels which supply 85% of market according to the publication.
