Govt Increases Social Welfare Grant To Vulnerable Urbanites From $180 To $300
The government has increased the social welfare grant to vulnerable urbanites from ZWL $180 to $300, Kwayedza reports. The grant which benefited 197 000 people living in urban areas went to people whose livelihoods were affected by the lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was revealed by Social Welfare Minister Larry Mavima in parliament this week as he was answering Highfields East MPโs questions on what steps the government was taking to help people living with disabilities and informal traders whose livelihoods were affected by the lockdown. Mavima said:
Kune avo vakakanganiswa raramo yavo neCovid-19, kusvika pari zvino tanyoresa mhuri 197 000 uye svondo rino kune vakapihwa mari yavo yemunaChivabvu naChikumi โ yemunaChivabvu yaive $180 pamhuri kuchiti yemunaChikumi yakawedzerwa kuenda pa$300 pamhuri
Feedback(For those whose livelihoods were affected by COVID-19, we have so far registered 197 000 and this week we will give them their May and June grants. Their grants for May was $180 per family, the June grant has increased to $300 per family.
The government a few weeks ago had said they had only disbursed less than 1% of the grant it promised vulnerable families and said they could not disburse more since most of the beneficiaries details were captured erroneously.
