Cops Arrest Canteen Owner After She Rejects Bond Notes In Payment For Sadza
Police officers on 4 July arrested a canteen owner in Mwenezi, Masvingo Province after she refused to accept $5 bond notes as payment for the sadza they had bought, instead, demanding US dollars or South African Rands.
Shalati Siziba (47) of Valley Business Centre appeared before Mwenezi Resident Magistrate Honesty Musiiwa facing charges of contravening section 3 (2) of Statutory Instrument 175 of 2008.
She was lucky to escape 10-day jail terms after she was fined $200.
In a related incident, Sellina Mapopera (39) of Kavi Village under Chief Chitanga was also arrested for denying bond notes as legal tender.
Mapopera allegedly refused to accept $2 bond notes from one Brilliant Mutasa who also wanted to buy sadza from her canteen.
She was also fined $200.
