Border Jumpers Attend Funeral, Later Test Positive For COVID-19
The ruling ZANU PF has expressed concern over the behaviour of two ladies who reportedly skipped the Zimbabwe-South Africa and attended their mother’s funeral in Banket before later testing positive for coronavirus.
The issue was among the discussed issues at the Zanu PF Mashonaland West Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting in Chinhoyi this Sunday, amid disturbing revelations about people evading quarantine.
The Minister of State for Mashonaland West, Honourable Mary Mliswa confirmed the development adding that authorities have to trace mourners who made contact with the returnees. Mliswa said:
It is an issue being looked into by the Ministry of Health and Child Care. Reports say they hugged a lot of people. ..most mourners knew they were border jumpers …Now the task before us is to trace the mourners who made contact with these returnees.
The party’s Deputy Secretary for Health, Dr Douglas Mombeshora warned against harbouring returnees who would have skipped quarantine procedures saying that puts the whole family at the risk of contracting the virus.
Scores of people are reportedly entering the country through undesignated entry points and some believe that this partially explains the rise in local coronavirus cases.
