ZUPCO Enhancing Covid-19 Prevention Measures As 9 Employees Test Positive

The Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) has announced that it will be intensifying measures meant to curb the spread and transmission of the coronavirus after nine (9) workers of the government parastatal had tested positive for the virus.

Last night, Zupco acting chief executive Mr Evaristo Madangwa stated a number of measures the parastatal will be implementing, with effect immediately. Madangwa said:

We shall continue to spray, disinfect each bus and omnibus daily.

Zupco shall continue to ensure temperature checks, hand sanitisation and wearing of face masks by both passengers and crews.

Efforts are underway to ensure continuity of service by Zupco. As we fight this pandemic we once again encourage our passengers, stakeholders and the nation at large to take all necessary precautions to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Health authorities have been expressing concern over overcrowding and overloading of commuters in ZUPCO buses and commuter omnibuses at a time when the country is grappling with the pandemic.

Local transmissions have surpassed imported cases, a trend that is worrying considering that some members of the public continue to mix and mingle as was the case before the outbreak of the coronavirus.
