Motorists Evading A Road Block Along Seke Road Parting With $20 To Pass Through An Illegal "Tollgate" - Report

Motorists who are avoiding a roadblock erected by state security forces along the Seke road in Harare are reportedly parting with amounts ranging from ZWL$10 and $20 to bypass a “tollgate” that has been erected by people who know the motorists have limited options, The Herald reports.

The road that is used by motorists to bypass the roadblock is reportedly barricaded by stones and logs and cars are only allowed to pass if they are not suspicious of them.

The guards manning the illegal tollgate claim they are from CAAZ and the road is prohibited because the area is used to host aeroplane transmission antennas.

However, when asked if they were making a killing charging motorists who usually flock in during the peak hour, the fake CAAZ guards said:

It is quite tricky sometimes as the road is used by people of different backgrounds even high ranking officials. As we are talking to you we actually don’t know who you are. However, we have motorists who regularly pass by and mushikashika whom we charge.

Meanwhile, a similar occurrence was reported along the Mutare Masvingo road and ZINARA is reportedly losing potential revenue as motorists are said to be bypassing the tollgate and passing through a field where they are charged way less than what they were going to pay at the official tollgate.
