The Credibility Of Zimbabwe’s Judiciary Has Been Eroded - US Senate Foreign Relations Committee

U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee yesterday said the credibility of Zimbabwe’s Judiciary system has been eroded and it was eroded more this past week by the continuous detention of Hopewell Chin’ono and Godfrey Kuraone who have been denied bail. Using their official Twitter handle, the committee tweeted:

The credibility of #Zimbabwe’s judiciary was eroded more this week after bias shown by courts against citizens – denying bail & choice of counsel. All political prisoners including Hopewell Chin’ono & Godfrey Kurauone deserve impartial justice & due process.

This came after Hopewell Chin’ono and Jacob Ngarivhume were denied bail again after they were arrested on charges of inciting public violence. Chin’ono’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa was also thrown off the case for scandalising the court. Godfrey Kurauone was arrested and is in custody for the same charges and Job Sikhala was arrested yesterday for the same charges.
