While implementing the “use it or lose it” policy, the government reportedly repossessed 32 idle mining concessions countrywide, the Chronicle reports. The 32 repossessed concessions are reportedly part of the 213 earmarked for repossession in the first phase.
This was revealed by Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando in an interview with Business Times. Chitando said:
At the moment, on the use it or lose it, we have 32 out of the 213 concessions that have been processed and by end of the month, those who were holding on to them would have lost them. There are 213 concessions earmarked for repossession under the first phase.
The same exercise will also see, small claims being consolidated to make viable mining concessions that are then allocated to genuine investors willing to start mining operations according to the publication.
