Task Mine Gold Panners Still Trapped Underground 7 Days Later

Hope is slowly fading at Task Mine in Chegutu as 5 gold panners (Makorokoza) are still trapped in the shaft that collapsed while they were underground on Thursday last week, New Zimbabwe reports.

Mashonaland West acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the unfortunate news and said a rescue mission being conducted by a multi-sectoral team is currently underway and unfortunately none of the 5 miners have been rescued:

The rescue efforts are still in progress but up to now, none of the trapped miners has been rescued,

The miners have been identified as:

  1. Crynos Nyamukanga,
  2. Munashe Nyamukanga (17),
  3. Shingai Gwatidzo (20),
  4. Costantino Dzinoreva
  5. Charles.

Reports claim agencies from the airforce and the army are on the ground and trying to rescue the trapped panners. The rescue mission is being hampered by the absence of underground plans and the rescuers need to do a proper ground survey to carry out the rescue mission.
