Investigation Officers have reportedly found evidence that MDC Alliance legislator Joanna Mamombe was faking her illness, The Herald reports. The matter came to light in court where the state led by Micheal Reza said it was in possession of video evidence that suggests that Mamombe who was reportedly caught on CCTV was shopping on the day she is said to have been sick.
Reza told the court that:
The State wishes to make an application in terms of Section 26 of the Mental Health Act. Last night, I was advised by the investigating officer that they have come with evidence which seems to suggest she might not be suffering from the illness revealed in court.
The evidence is on a CCTV footage and the investigating officer has downloaded the evidence on a flash disc. On the video, it shows that she was perfectly functioning and performing her normal duties and it was taken on September 4 when she was supposed to be at hospital. She was shopping,
Mamombe was discharged from hospital by police officers after a magistrate issued a warrant of her arrest when she did not appear in court. Mamombe’s lawyer last week applied for her bail conditions to be relaxed temporarily because she was not feeling well.
