MDC-A, MDC-T Invited To The Anti-Corruption Campaign

The Zimbabwean government has invited opposition MDC Alliance and MDC-T to call for the removal of sanctions which were imposed on the country following the controversial fast-track land reform programme.

The invitation is made ahead of the SADC anti-corruption day, 25 October, during which regional leaders will be calling upon Western powers to remove the sanctions.

Secretary for Information, Nick Mangwana said other political parties, churches and businesses had already the anti-sanctions campaign. He said:

We have joined hands with other progressive stakeholders such as business, political parties, and civil society to hold this year’s anti-sanctions e-gala. We extend an invitation to the MDC-T and MDC-A and others to come and give a shout against sanctions.

MDC-T secretary for finance, Tapiwa Mashakada told NewZimbabwe that the party led by Thokozani Khupe was against the imposition of the corrective measures.

He added that Khupe was engaging Western powers in her capacity as the chair of the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) to lobby for the removal of the coercive measures and re-engagement of Zimbabwe with the international community.

Early this year, MDC Alliance national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere submitted that sanctions needed to be removed following the implementation of political, electoral, and media reforms.
