MDC Alliance legislator for Harare West, Joana Mamombe was declared mentally unstable by government doctors who examined her to verify earlier reports by her private doctors.
Mamombe’s health condition was made public when her lawyers argued that she was not fit to stand trial in a case she is being accused together with Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova of staging their abduction in May this year.
When she appeared at the Harare Magistrates court this Friday for determination on whether she is fit to stand trial or not, the presiding Magistrate ruled that Mamombe is not fit to stand trial.
The presiding Magistrate also ruled that she should be treated at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals at Annexe section for at least 2 weeks.
The state thought Mamombe and her legal counsel were faking her illness as a way to abscond court.
Meanwhile, Mamombe’s defence council has applied for a relaxation of her bail conditions.
