Goliati Advises Kombi Operators To Register With Associations
The Passengers Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) has called on private commuter omnibus operators to register with established associations in order to reduce road traffic accidents.
Speaking during an interview with NewsDay, PAZ president Tafadzwa Goliati said kombis which were not registered under the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) franchise should join associations.
Goliati argued that it was imperative for private kombi operators to follow the Bulawayo model so that there is sanity on urban routes. He said:
We are calling for the kombis to register with associations to create order and assist in curbing road carnage. Every city should copy what is being done in Bulawayo so that there can be order.
We want this Bulawayo model to be adopted because we do not see the ZUPCO being able to meet the demand for transport.
The PAZ president also called on the government to increase the number of buses so that commuters would not have to queue at bus terminuses for long.
He said the shortage of ZUPCO buses is an issue that needs urgent attention.
