Govt Refutes John Tallach School Death Rumours

The government has dismissed social media rumours claiming that one student from John Tallach, a mission school in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North, 40km outside Bulawayo, had died of COVID-19.

Matabeleland North acting provincial medical director Padingani Munepati said all students and teachers are stable and no-one has died.

The school was quarantined early this week after 122 pupils, including teachers, tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus that causes the disease called COVID-19.

The Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland-run school was quarantined to curb the spread of the virulent disease.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has set up a temporary clinic at the school and stopped people from coming in or going out at the institution.

Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro said all pupils, school employees and teachers are isolated at the school, therefore parents and families are not at risk of infection.
