The Zimbabwean government has expressed excitement over the ongoing renovation of the Beitbridge-Chirundu highway.
Speaking after touring parts of the highway under construction in the Mushagashe area this Saturday, the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes, Joram Gumbo said:
This is a very old road, it was done in the 1950s. It had outlived its lifespan. So this improvement we have under the new dispensation is something we are proud of.
Over 100 kilometres have been completed so far and the five contractors working on the road target to reach the 200km mark by year-end.
Works on the road commenced in 2019 with the contractors upgrading the existing two-lane road as part of the first phase for the project.
This work will involve widening the existing lanes to meet current standards.
