Govt Sets Aside $123 Million For Non-Exclusion Of Pregnant Girls In Schools
Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube while presenting the 2021 National budget on Thursday proposed to set aside $123 Million for the non-exclusion of pregnant girls in schools, The Sunday news reports. The funds will be used to provide psycho-social support for girls who fall pregnant while they are still in school.
Speaking during the budget statement presentation Professor Mthuli Ncube said:
Government allows non-exclusion of pregnant girls in schools and to ensure observance of this provision, psycho–social support will be enhanced at schools and an allocation of ZWL$123 million has been set aside.
FeedbackAdditionally, the Professor also proposed to capacitate education officers so that they monitor and evaluate schools to improve the quality of education in Zimbabwe:
Monitoring and evaluation of schools will be strengthened to ensure quality education outcomes in all institutions and this will be complemented by the provision of supervision vehicles at a total allocation of $220 million. Government will also prioritise the teacher on the job re-training in order to meet the requirements of the new competence-based curriculum and introduction of teaching and learning of all 16 languages at schools.
In the same budget, the finance minister said the economy is expected to grow by a staggering 7.4% in 2021.
