Vice President Chiwenga Mourns SB Moyo
Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care, General (Retired) Constantino Chiwenga has expressed his condolences following the death of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Lieutenant General (Retired) Sibusiso Busi Moyo.
In a statement, Chiwenga said Moyo was one of Zimbabwe’s rarest and finest brains, an accomplished military commander and civil servant. He said:
Having had the opportunity to work with the departed son of the soil, during the liberation struggle and subsequently in post-independence military service and political economy, I can affirm that the nation has been robbed of one of its rarest and finest brains with an excellent grasp of the broader picture as well as attention to detail and implementation.
FeedbackWe take solace from the fact that the late was a distinguished Commander, politician and civil servant whose contribution to the wellbeing of Zimbabwe was beyond reproach.
The late Moyo joined the war of independence in 1977. At independence in 1980, he was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army where he rose through the ranks to become Major General in 2015.
He was promoted to Lieutenant General in December 2017, two months after announcing the military coup that ended then-president Robert Mugabe’s 37-year rule.
He was then appointed Zimbabwe’s foreign minister in 2017, a position he held until the time of his death on 20 January 2021.
Moyo succumbed to COVID-19 at a private hospital in Harare on Wednesday and has since been declared a national hero.
