The MDC Alliance duo of Cecilia Chimbiri and Joana Mamombe who were arrested on Monday after a flash demo at the new parliament building’s bail hearing was postponed to today by Harare Magistrate Magistrate Mambanje to today.
This was after they were arrested for allegedly insulting police officers as they were coming from the demostration. A statement released by ZRP on their arrest said:
The trio who were in a Toyota Fortuner without number plates followed a Police vehicle with officers who had attended the scene and used abusive and obscene language on the officers thus leading to their arrest.
According to Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, the bail hearing of the MDC Alliance duo will be heard before Magistrate Mambanje today:
Hon @JoanaMamombe & @ceechimbiri2 will sleep at Chikurubi Maximum Prison after Magistrate Mambanje postponed hearing of bail application to Wednesday.
Mamombe is seen in the following video as she goes back to Chikurubi saying she is just worried about COVID-19, not her detention as she said the youths of Zimbabwe have suffered enough at the hands of the authorities for long:
