PSL To Import COVID-19 Vaccines For All Players And Officials
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has resolved to import COVID-19 vaccines for players and officials in a bid to resume football matches which have been suspended for nearly a year due to the coronavirus.
In a leaked document titled “Proposals for the start of 2021 Football Season”, sent to all 18 topflight teams, PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele said they will apply to health authorities for clearances to import the vaccines. Wrote Ndebele:
The PSL will seek application to get clearance from the Ministry of Health (and Child Care) to import recommended vaccines for all the players and officials.
FeedbackThe process of vaccination will be carried out by the PSL medical committee doctors.
All guidelines regarding vaccination to be strictly followed by all stakeholders.
Local football matches have been on hold since March 2020 when the Government banned all sporting activities under a lockdown meant to slow down the spread of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, FIFA president Gianni Infantino recently said footballers should not be considered among the priority groups for receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
This has left organisations such as the PSL with no option but to source the vaccines themselves if football is to return anytime soon.
