The European Union in ZImbabwe has condemned the continued incarceration of MDC Alliance MP Joana Mamombe and MDC Alliance Activist Cecilia Chimbiri and said the selective application of the law in their case violates their human rights.
This was after High Court Judge, Justice Chitapi denied their bail application appeal stating that there were compelling reasons to deny them bail.
Using Microblogging site Twitter, EU In Zimbabwe said:
Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri have been denied bail again this week. Their continued incarceration violates their rights, and illustrates what human rights defenders have described repeatedly as selective application of the law in #Zimbabwe. #EU4HumanRights
Mamombe and Chimbiri have been in pretrial detention for 3 weeks now after they were arrested for being part of a press conference in Harare. While ZINASU leader Takudzwa Ngadziore was released on $5 000 bail on Saturday.
