A Harare Magistrate Mary Taruvinga yesterday convicted MDC Alliance Makomborero Haruzivishe on charges of inciting public violence and resisting arrest.
This was revealed by Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) whose member Kossam Ncube was representing Makomborero.
ZLHR said Haruzivishe’s lawyer will argue mitigation before sentencing which will be done on Tuesday next week:
Today@MakomboreroH was convicted by a Magistrate on charges of inciting public violence. Magistrate Taruvinga also convicted Haruzivishe of resisting a police officer. She based her judgment on circumstantial evidence.
On 6 April 2021, @ZLHRLawyers member Kossam Ncube will appear to argue mitigation before sentencing.
Makomborero was arrested last month and he was charged with kidnapping after he reportedly walked into Impala Motor Spares and detained employees whom they accused of causing the arrest of their colleague Takudzwa Ngadziore last year.
His conviction came barely 72 hours after UK Minister for Africa James Duddridge urged the government of Zimbabwe to stop harassing opposition members.
Other people like Hopewell Chino’ono and Jacob Ngarivhume are facing similar charges of inciting public violence too.
