"A Legend Had Fallen" - Reactions To Heath Streak Cricket Ban

Following the banning of Heath Streak from cricket for 8 years, Zimbabweans on social media have commented on the issue.  We list below some of the reactions:

Prominent Sports Journalist Mike Madoda:

A legend has fallen.

Cricket Journalist, Bertus de Jong, @BdJcricket

As feared, it’s Heath Streak. Deeply disappointing. Can only hope nobody else is caught up in this.

One note though, the 2018 World Cup Qualifier is notably absent from the list of comps.

MDC Alliance senior member, David Coltart:

I am deeply saddened by this report as Heath Streak has been a good friend for many years. I am grateful that he has admitted his breach. Repentance is the first step towards rehabilitation.

There can be no excuses for this type of behaviour. Corruption has deeply affected #Cricket internationally and within #Zimbabwe and must be ruthlessly rooted out wherever it is found. That said I stand ready to assist Heath redeem his otherwise outstanding record & contribution.

Blah Fatso @FaraiNyamupinga

Sports Heroes will disappoint you first Bruce then, the swimmer now it’s Heath. What are we supposed to do with the memories. It shall be well Captain Heath Streak…

Business journalist, Range Mberi, found Coltart’s response to the corruption noteworthy:

Understanding Coltart

Larry Kwirirayi, Blogger and Radio Presenter:

What Heath Streak did is not ‘sad’. It is disgusting, vile and self-serving. He is bent and that right there, is his legacy

Taffy Gotora, blogger & digital marketer:

Very sad development, not trying to exonerate him but it’s difficult to ignore that in the past cricket funds were corruptly abused & unaccounted for at @ZimCricketv

and players didn’t benefit, not to mention the lack of corporate sponsorship of the sport.

Journalist, Farai Mwakutuya:

Extremely disappointed to hear about Heath Streak. My suspicion is that he probably he probably got a lot more than just the 35k and iPhone so there could be other matches than the ones discovered. How will this impact his academy? Yet another blot on Zimcricket
