The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has released 2 500 prisoners after President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently approved the release through the Presidential Amnesty.
The amnesty was extended to prisoners including the terminally ill, female prisoners and juveniles who are not serving specified offences and some have since been released.
Specified offences are serious offences such as murder, treason, public violence, car-jacking, human trafficking, unlawful possession of firearms and rape or any sexual offences.
