SADC Meeting On Possible Military Deployment To Mozambique Postponed Indefinitely
The extraordinary troika meeting of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security to finalise military deployments to Mozambique to fight insurgents has been indefinitely postponed.
The postponement was necessitated partly by the absence of Botswana President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi who is quarantining. presidents of South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe were expected to attend. A statement by Masisi’s statement reads:
The public is informed that the Extraordinary Summit of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security that was scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday 29th April 2021 in Maputo, Mozambique has been moved to a later date.
The leaders agreed on a postponement as a result of the unavailability of the Chairperson His Excellency, President Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, currently in quarantine and the Incoming Chairperson, His Excellency President Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa who is appearing at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry.
His Honour, the Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane was supposed to lead the Botswana delegation to Maputo this afternoon.
