An audio recording of an unidentified ZANU PF official who was telling party members that civil servants will be fired if they don’t like the ruling party has gone viral on social media.
It is not clear when and where the address was made but the official sounded like someone with immense authority in ZANU PF. The official said:
A civil servant works for the government of Zimbabwe and ZANU PF is the party that is in power.
So if a civil servant says he or she doesn’t like ZANU PF it means they are speaking against their employer and if you speak badly about your employer you get fired.
We are telling our civil servants that please, forget the opposition spirit and understand that you work for a ZANU PF government and therefore you are ZANU PF. There is no other way.
If you don’t accept that, the door is open. We will get ZANU PF members to replace you.
The official goes on to say that a time will come when only ZANU PF members will be employed in the civil service.
He said prospective employees will have to prove first that they are bona fide ZANU PF cadres before they are offered a job in government.
