Zimbabwe's New Coronavirus Cases Increase
Zimbabwe has announced 192 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, raising fears of a third wave of the virus and a stricter lockdown.
New cases have been on an upward trajectory over the last several days with 192 cases recorded on the 11th of June, 64 on the 10th, 111 on the 9th and 83 new cases on 8 June.
In its daily coronavirus or COVID-19 situation report on 11 June 2021, the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) said:
192 New Cases (All Local) and 3 Deaths reported today. (These 192 cases include 82 cases from Mash West whose samples were collected in the last 4 days(7 to 11 June) and results were reported today after the samples were processed.) (7 day rolling average* for new cases rises to 77 today from 58 yesterday).
β¦ As of 11 June 2021, Zimbabwe has recorded 39 688 Cases 36970 recoveries & 1629 Deaths.
Meanwhile, the government has announced a two-week localised lockdown for Hurungwe and Kariba districts to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus
Both districts are in Mashonaland West Province and the lockdown comes after more than 40 new infections were recorded there in the past three days.
