Prof Moyo Discusses Why "Mnangagwa Wants Feb/March 2023 Elections"
Exiled former cabinet minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo has said President Emmerson Mnangagwa is planning to hold 2023 elections as early as February or March.
He posted on Twitter suggesting that the months are mystical and are of great significance to the ruling ZANU PF. Moyo said:
_If to be FOREWARNED is to be FOREARMED, take notice that, as Mugabe’s right-hand man for 52 years & a key architect of the First Republic in the 1980s, Mnangagwa knows too well that ZanuPF prefers to hold elections in Feb/March & thus plans to hold the 2023 elections in Feb/March!_
Asked why Mnangagwa would like to hold an election at the beginning of the year, Moyo said:
_Many reasons, including that it’s usually the rainy season, which invites low voter turnout and is conducive to rigging; but above all has an occultic ring, going back to the liberation struggle with tsvimbo dzenyika (national sceptres) connotations of guns & rain, that are attractive to Mnangagwa!_
He also concurred with some who opined that in the case of a good harvest, the people will be in a jovial mood and likely vote for the ruling party that usually donates inputs and in the case of hunger, ZANU PF will be donating food hampers in exchange for votes. He added:
_It means they’re planning to hold early elections in 18 months, calculating that the MDC-A is in limbo, disorganized if not in tatters & thus will not be ready for elections in 18 months._
The “tsvimbo” or sceptre narrative has become popular lately with Patrick Zhuwao, the nephew of the late former President Robert Mugabe saying that is the reason “Mnangagwa” is pushing for the exhumation and reburial of his uncle.
Zhuwao argues that Mnangagwa believes Mugabe was buried with a sceptre that will enhance his rule.
Meanwhile, journalist Hopewell Chin’ono is rallying the opposition MDC Alliance to increase the number of poll agents in 2023 to protect the vote.
He argues that many irregularities and manipulation of results recorded in 2018 were a result of inadequate MDC Alliance officials manning the polling stations.
