Warriors Defender Tendayi Darikwa Extends Stay At Wigan Ahletic

England-based Warriors defender, Tendayi Darikwa has extended his stay at English League One side Wigan Athletic after signing a two-year contract saying “I’m delighted to be back here.”

The 29-year old whose contract was set to expire in June is one of the nine players at the club who have been offered new deals.

The Latics announced this Thursday that they were delighted to confirm that defender Darikwa has signed a new deal at the Club until the summer of 2023. Said the club:

_Darikwa joined Latics in January following his departure from Sky Bet Championship side Nottingham Forest, making over 50 appearances for the Club._

_The right-sided defender was a mainstay in Latics’ starting XI in the second half of the 2020-21 League One season and played a crucial role as he helped Leam Richardson’s side heroically survive from relegation against all of the odds._

_After making his debut in the 3-3 draw at Rochdale in January, the Zimbabwe international went on to make a further 25 league appearances for Latics, helping the defence provide a solid platform to push towards safety._

_Darikwa will continue to provide a wealth of experience in the dressing room to his fellow teammates, having played in over 200 league matches, with a good percentage of those coming in the Championship._

Speaking after signing the new contract, Darikwa said:

_I’m delighted to be back here at the Football Club._

_I really enjoyed my time during the second half of last season when I joined. We’ve been speaking for a few weeks now, and I can’t wait to get going again._

_Leam was probably the main reason (to re-sign). As soon as he signed his deal last season, he outlined his plans for this year and it was something I wanted to be part of. I want to take this Football Club back to where it should be._
