The Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development has revealed a massive salary hike for academic and non-academic staff at public universities.
In an internal staff notice signed by the Ministry’s permanent secretary and dated 22 July 2021, the salary hike is with effect from this month.
According to the notice, the salaries of Vice-Chancellors has been hiked from ZWL$153 996.00 to ZWL$223 294.00, while Pro-Vice Chancellors will take home $194 030.00, a significant jump from the ZWL$133 814.00 they had been getting since April.
Professors, Dean of Students, Executive Deans will receive ZWL$148 619.00 per month, Associate Professors, IT Managers, Director of Works & Estates will take home ZWL$139 146.00 and Senior Lecturers, Systems Managers, Operations Managers, ICT Managers, Projects Managers and Research Fellows will be paid ZWL$130 104.00.
Lecturers, Director Institute of Continuing Health will get ZWL$107 809.00, Assistant Lecturers, Teaching Assistants, Resident Vets, Chief Nursing Officers and Senior Technicians were awarded ZWL$73 073.00, while Computer Operators will get ZWL$47 606, up from ZWL$32 832.00.
Chief Accounts Clerks, Chief library Assistants, Service Managers and Security Officers will now take home ZWL$36 580.00 while Accounting Assistants, Library Assistants, Chief Secretaries and Senior Secretaries were awarded ZWL$31 969.00.
Senior cleaners and Messengers will now take home ZWL$19 475.00, Kitchen Porters ZWL$18 962, while Labourers and Cleaners will get ZWL$16 706.00, up from ZWL$ 9 827.
