The Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T is warming up to join the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD), a few days after President Emmerson Mnangagwa doled out 19 brand new all-terrain vehicles to POLAD principals.
Mwonzora’s spokesperson Lloyd Damba said they are waiting for the formal invitation from the POLAD secretariat. Said Damba:
We are only waiting for the formal invitation. If the formal invitation comes, we will consult our party organs and then the national council will make a final and binding decision.
On Sunday Damba said Mwonzora will not join POLAD because the constitutive document does not allow the MDC-T leader to be part of the forum as he did not participate in the 2018 presidential elections.
Damba made the remarks after Mnangagwa on Friday said Mwonzora is free to join POLAD although POLAD is for principals who participated in the 2018 Presidential elections.
Mnangagwa said since Mwonzora is now the official leader of the opposition in Parliament, he could join the dialogue platform.
POLAD was launched by Mnangagwa in May 2019 following calls for the need for dialogue with the opposition to find solutions for the country’s problems.
