Roki, Kofi Olomide, Rayvanny Get Over 2 Million YouTube Views In 48 Hours
Rockford Josphat, better known as Roki, has attained over 2 million YouTube views in 48 hours with his latest song Patati Patata which features Congolese musician, Koffi Olomide and Tanzanian BET award winner, Rayvanny.
The track which was released this Wednesday breaks Roki’s previous 2 million YouTube views in two weeks count record he set in July with Uchandifunga.
The July record was a first for locally-based artists.
With only 48 hours after its release on YouTube, Patati Patata has garnered over 2.4 million views.
Patati Patata is dominating the airwaves and was given a nod by multi-award winning South African producer, Master KG and Tanzanian star, Diamond Platinum.
The song was produced by distinguished producer Oskid under Passion Java’s Record label.
Nevertheless, Patati Patata attracted criticism from some quarters who disliked the “ED Mnangagwa number 1” chant by Kofi Olomide. The line was viewed as a political statement and campaign for President Emmerson Mnangagwa ahead of the 2023 elections.
When it was released, freelance journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono claimed that the song marked the demise of the urban groves pioneer, Roki.
A lot more concurred with Chin’ono saying he should learn from other politicians who sang about politics.
There is a long list of Zimbabwean artists who were previously attacked for singing songs with political connotations. The list includes Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Sulumani Chimbetu, Oliver Mtukudzi and exiled Thomas Mukanya Mapfumo.
