Zimbabwe is expected to take delivery of 1.5 million Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines in three batches within the next three days.
The first consignment was scheduled to arrive in Harare on Thursday afternoon while the last has been set for Saturday.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) confirmed the expected delivery of the vaccines in a statement. MoHCC said:
We are receiving another 1.5 million vaccines that were purchased by the Government of Zimbabwe.
They are coming in three batches and they will boost the country’s vaccination drive.
Finance and Economic Development Permanent Secretary Mr George Guvamatanga also confirmed the purchase of the said vaccines.
The first batch (516 800 shots) were expected to be delivered at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport today at 2.35 pm, 528 000 tomorrow at 12.35 pm and the last batch of 455 200 is scheduled to be delivered at 2.35 pm on Saturday.
COVID-19 jabs are being administered free of charge and as of Wednesday, 18 August 2021, 2 193 346 people had received the first jab while 1 348 374 had received their second.
