Brendan Galloway Won't Travel To Zimbabwe For WCQs
Plymouth Argyle defender Brendan Galloway will not be with Zimbabwe for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers (WCQs) at the start of September.
This follows an announcement from the English Football League (EFL) on Wednesday afternoon that clubs have taken a collective decision not to release players for international matches that are to be played in countries on the UK Government’s “red list”.
Galloway was set to make his international debut but will now have to wait longer for that opportunity due to the continuing public health concerns caused by COVID-19.
Players would have had to quarantine for 10 clear days upon return from a red list country, resulting in them being unavailable for a minimum of three domestic fixtures.
Galloway had been called up by Zimbabwe for their World Cup qualifiers at home to South Africa in Harare on Friday, 3 September and away to Ethiopia on Tuesday 7, September.
Zimbabwe and Ethiopia are both on the UK Government’s red list of countries and territories.
