The Zimbabwe Republic Police has reported that five people died in a horrific road accident that happened early Sunday morning along the Harare – Bulawayo Highway.
Police said there was a head-on collision between a Mitsubishi minibus and a Nissan UD truck and all who were in the minibus died. Reads a police statement:
The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident that occurred at the 366 km peg along Hre-Byo road near Kombo area, Fort Rixon where a Mitsubishi minibus had a head-on collision with a Nissan UD truck on 26/09/21 at 0300 hours.
All the five occupants in the minibus, who include two ZRP members, a ZNA member and yet to be identified male adult died in the unfortunate road accident. More details to follow.
Reports of road accidents have been on the surge in recent years with the sorry state of the roads cited as one of the factors contributing.
This year, President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared all roads a state of emergency saying it pains to see so many potholes on once-great highways.
The Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA), a government department under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, has been failing to maintain roads amid reports of grand corruption at the department.
