Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS)‘s spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo, has announced the death of one of the authority’s officers who was trampled to death by an elephant in Victoria Falls.
Farawo did not reveal details surrounding the incident. He said:
It is with great sadness that a 51-year-old anti-poaching officer has been trampled to death by an elephant in Victoria Falls. @Zimparks & @PoliceZimbabwe are on the ground.
Human-wildlife conflicts are not new in areas near national parks.
Just last month, a Zimbabwean man from Kwekwe in the Midlands province was trampled to death while trying to take a selfie with elephants. The elephants seriously injured a second person who had to be admitted to the hospital.
ZIMPARKS reported that the elephant that charged at him was one of several that had escaped from a conservation area in central Zimbabwe.
