Gabriel Nyoni Eyes ZIFA Presidency
Former Highlanders and Caps United winger Gabriel “Granvia” Nyoni dreams of becoming Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president, a position currently held by Felton Kamambo.
Nyoni suffered a career-threatening injury several months ago but has started working towards a possible return to the field.
He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at his Glad Africa Division One side, Cape Umoya in Durban.
Nyoni told B-Metro during a recent interview that he is currently taking football administration courses to prepare for a possible return to football as an administrator. Said Nyoni:
I am very optimistic. The Bible says as a man thinketh so is he so I remain thinking positively about the future and the possibility of playing football again.
But even if the worst comes to the worst, I still want to remain in football.
And so, for now, I will be taking football administration courses to prepare for a possible return to football as an administrator.
I have a dream to one day become ZIFA president and lead Zimbabwean football out of its continuous downturn.
Nyoni’s revelation of his ZIFA aspirations come at a time when retired footballers, young and old, have intensified efforts of getting one of their own into local football’s highest office.
