Bulawayo Rolls Out COVID-19 Vaccination For 16 And 17 Year-olds

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) is rolling out a vaccination campaign targeting residents aged 16 and 17.

In a statement on Tuesday, Bulawayo Town Clerk Christopher Dube said while the city fathers are especially targeting the aforementioned age groups, the vaccination of those aged 18 and above will continue.

Dube said the vaccination programme targetting those aged 16 and 17 will take place at all municipal clinics, Central Hospitals, Mater Dei Hospital, all secondary schools and outreach points. Said, Dube:

The City of Bulawayo in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and partners will be conducting a vaccination programme targeting the 16 to 17 years age group. During the campaign, the Vaccination to the 18 years and above age will continue.

Based on the available scientific data in line with the Medicines Control Authorities of Zimbabwe guidance, the specialist paediatricians have recommended the vaccination of the 16 to 17 years age group with Sinovac COVID -19 Vaccine, whilst the protocol for the younger age groups is still under consideration.

Vaccination will be given at all Municipal clinics, Central Hospitals, Mater Dei Hospital, all secondary schools and outreach points.

On the 1st of this month, the Government directed secondary schools, colleges, universities and vaccination centres in all provinces to commence the vaccination of the 16 to 17 years age group against COVID-19 with immediate effect.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care said the specialist paediatricians have recommended the vaccination of the 16 to 17 years age group with the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine.
